SAFETY & SECURITY

1. Organization and Systems Supporting Safe Operation

• We establish a rigorous safety management system, setting out safety management regulations and all necessary procedures in accordance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and Japan’s Marine Transportation Act.
• We appoint personnel who meet all requirements as Safety Manager and Marine Dispatcher, and plan navigation, ship deployment, and crew assignment appropriately to achieve safe operation.
• We conduct internal safety audits and pursue continuous improvement through a well-functioning PDCA cycle.
• The ship is fully provided with evacuation procedures and life-saving appliances for onboard emergencies. In addition to the drills required by law, we continuously strengthen our crisis-management and response capabilities through a range of education and training programs.

2. A Crew of Expertise and Responsibility

• Crew members are selected to exacting standards, centered on personnel with deep expertise in navigation, engineering, and security, and with extensive experience in passenger-ship operation.
• Under the command of the captain, roles and responsibilities are clearly defined for every position, enabling rapid response in an emergency.
• Within our multinational crew, a common safety awareness and shared standards of conduct are maintained.
• We assign the required number of crew members meeting all qualification requirements necessary and appropriate for safety management, in addition to the requirements of the SOLAS and STCW Conventions.

3. Safety- and Environment-Related Equipment: Beyond compliance with Japanese domestic standards, we install equipment conforming to the latest safety standards of the IMO, IACS, the USCG, and other bodies, and ensure that crew members are thoroughly trained in its maintenance and operation.

4. Environmental Initiatives

With the goal of minimizing our environmental impact, we:

• Promote activities that reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as far as possible in shore excursions at ports of call.
• Comply with environmental laws and regulations, as well as our internal environmental rules.
• Ensure that all employees are thoroughly informed of our environmental policy and initiatives through internal education, fostering awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
• Strive to reduce emissions of substances that burden local and regional environments, by:
- (a) effectively operating the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) to cut emissions associated with fossil-fuel use, including CO₂, NOx, and black smoke;
- (b) reducing general waste;
- (c) reducing consumption through the efficient use of resources and energy.
• Strive for the recycling and proper disposal of waste.
• Set targets in line with this policy, verify the degree of achievement, conduct reviews, and pursue continuous improvement.
